1310588 Copolymers L'OREAL 12 June 1970 [12 June 1969] 6304/72 Divided out of 1310587 Heading C3P A copolymer resin derived from at least one monomer taken from at least two of the following groups, in which the weight percentage of the units derived from one of the monomers through the entire length of any constituent copolymer chain in the resin does not differ from the weight percentage of the units derived from the said monomer in the resin by more than 2À5 weight per cent, the groups being: (I) vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl butyrate, methallyl acetate, methallyl propionate, methallyl butyrate, allyl acetate, allyl propionate, allyl butyrate, crotyl acetate, crotyl propionate, crotyl butyrate, methyl crotonate, butyl crotonate, octyl crotonate, ethyl vinylacetate, butyl allylacetate, hexyl allylacetate, ethyl allyloxyacetate, octyl allyloxyacetate, ethyl allylthioacetate, octyl allylthioacetate, ethyl allylaminoacetate, octyl allylaminoacetate, diethyl allylmalonate, methyl undecylenate, butyl crotyloxyacetate, ethyl methallyloxyacetate or ethyl vinyloxyacetate; (II) 3-butenoic acid, 4-pentenoic acid, 10-undecenoic acid, allylmalonic acid, crotonic acid, allyloxyacetic acid, crotyloxyacetic acid, methallyloxyacetic acid, 3 - allyloxy - propionic acid, allylthioacetic acid, allylaminoacetic acid or vinyloxyacetic acid; and (III) vinyl octanoate, vinyl laurate, vinyl palmitate, vinyl stearate, vinyl isostearate, allyl laurate, methallyl laurate, allyl stearate, methallyl stearate, allylisostearate, methallyl isostearate, allyl behenate, methallyl behenate, crotyl laurate, allyl oleate, oleyl crotonate, lanolin crotonate, lauryl vinylacetate, stearyl allylacetate, lauryl allyloxy acetate, lauryl allylthioacetate, lauryl allylaminoacetate, dioctyl allylmalonate, octyl undecylenate, cetyl-vinyl ether, stearyl-vinyl ether, lauryl-allyl ether, lauryl methallyl ether, stearyl-orotyl ether, 1 - allyloxy - 3 - dodecyloxy - propanol - 2, 1- allyloxy - 3 - dodecylthio - propanol - 2, 1- hexene, 1 - octene, 1 - dodecene, 1 - hexadecene, 1 - octadecene, 1 - eicosene, or N- vinylpyrrolidone. When one of the monomers used is acidic, the polymer may be neutralized by use of an inorganic or organic base in an amount which is 50-100% of that required stoichiometrically. Organic bases such as monoethanolamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine, an isopropylamine, morpholine, 2- amino - 2 - methyl - propanol - 1, or 2 - amino- 2 - methyl - propane - diol - 1,3. The required properties of the polymer are obtained by careful monitoring of calculated amounts of monomers added during polymerization. It is also possible to continuously monitor the resistivity of the polymerization medium, this giving an indication of the amount of most reactive mono - mer consumed, or remaining.
