Abstract

1310281 Gas absorption CLENSOL Ltd 9 June 1971 [9 June 1970] 27896/70 Headings B1L and B1R [Also in Division C5] An apparatus for scrubbing a gas with an emulsion of benzene (or one of its homologues, e.g. xylene) and an alkali solution, e.g. sodium phenate, comprises a tank 1 surmounted by a tower 3 containing a spray head 9 for the emulsion and rolled wire netting 3a. The gas is delivered at 2 and enters the tank 1 through apertures 6, passing in turn through a layer 10 of sodium phenate, a layer 11 of the emulsion, and a layer 12 of the benzene or xylene. The emulsion is circulated between the layer 11 and the head 9 through an exit 4.
