Abstract
1310176 Catalytic hydrogenation reactor; liquid/gas separation HYDROCARBON RESEARCH Inc 19 June 1970 29967/70 Headings B1F and B1M A process for liquid phase hydrogenation of hydrocarbons with improved separation of gas and liquid products comprises passing the hydrocarbons together with hydrogen upwardly through a mass of particulate catalyst in reactor 2 under conditions of high temperature and pressure such that a continuous liquid phase exists in the reaction vessel and at a velocity such as to bring the catalyst into an abullated state in the liquid phase in the reaction vessel an interface 12 between an upper zone in which the catalyst density is relatively low and a lower zone in which the catalyst density is relatively high and such that the catalyst is retained in the reaction vessel, separately removing vapourous and liquid effluents from the reaction vessel, and passing the liquid across baffles 4 after the liquid has passed through the zone of relatively high catalyst density but prior to separation of the vapourous and liquid effluents, the baffles 4 being of a metal resistant to the reaction conditions and inert to the reaction taking place.
