Abstract
130,978. RÚol, J. Aug. 9, 1918, [Convention date]. Roasting - furnaces; charging and d i s - c h a r g i n g . - An apparatus for dehydrating, reducing, roasting, or calcining minerals and other pulverulent materials comprises a number of concentric shelves or hearths m arranged one below another in series extending from a central shaft n to the periphery and back to the shaft, the materials being fed to the uppermost shelves bv a dis. tributing - device and moved from shelf to shelf by rotating scraper blades p carried by the shaft. The shelves may be flat as shown, or may be curved concavely or convexly or both. The material is fed from a hopper c having a fixed base with a number of radial openings, in connexion with which works a movable disk forming a hit-and-miss regulator. In the form shown, the heating &c. gases are supplied through a conduit r at the upper end of the shaft, and pass out through the discharge shoot s for the material, being then led to the chimney e through a conduit V and a dustremover formed by concentric casings i, j, k arranged above the supply hopper. The material is discharged by a conveyer t. In a modification, the heating-gases are supplied at the lower end of the shaft and pass in the opposite direction to the material.
