Abstract

1309777 Lactones from neo-acids BP CHEMICALS Ltd 21 July 1971 [2 July 1970] 32115/70 Heading C2C Lactones are prepared by reacting a (C 8 -C 20 ) neo-acid having a tertiary carbon atom with a hydride acceptor in the presence of a Br÷nsted acid. The neo-acid is suitably aliphatic or alicyclic and the hydride acceptor is suitably an olefin. The reaction is preferably carried out at a temperature of from 0‹ to 50‹ C. Examples describe the production of various 8 and γ lactones.
