Abstract

1309766 Laminates EASTMAN KODAK CO 23 June 1970 [23 June 1969 8 April 1970] 30460/70 Headings B5N and B5K [Also in Division B8] A laminate suitable for forming pods for photographic fluids comprises a lead foil having thereon a layer containing an acrylonitrile/ butadiene copolymer which is mixed or copolymerized with a compound containing a free carboxylic acid group and preferably also contains 0À1 to 5% by weight of N-(trimethoxysilylpropyl) ethylene diamine. The polymer may be applied as a solution by extrusion, spraying or dipping. A further layer of polymer, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetal, vinyl chloride/ vinyl acetate copolymers, nylon, polysulphides or polyethylene may be applied. A sheet of paper may be adhered to the other face of the lead foil. In an embodiment a layer of nylon and a further layer of the acrylonitrile/butadiene copolymer layer may be superposed on top of the first polymer layer. A polymer comprising a mixture of a thermoplastic polymer with either another polymer or with a plasticizer as disclosed in co-pending Application 30460/70 which is characterized by forming a relatively strong heat seal at high temperatures and a relatively weak heat seal at lower temperatures may be applied. The laminate may be formed into the pods by heat sealing two sections around the periphery or by folding a single sheet and sealing along the remaining three edges. The relatively weak seal along one edge may also be provided by introducing a thin strip of ethyl cellulose between the halves of the pod.
