Abstract

1309714 Isobutyramide derivatives SYNTHELABO SA 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970 27 March 1970] 22195/71 Heading C2C Novel isobutyramide derivatives of the formula wherein Z is 2-(4-chlorophenoxy)-2-methylpropionyl; R is a group of the formula C m H 2m-1 OZ or C m B 2m-1 (OZ) 2 , the two hydroxy or acyloxy groups, where both present, not being attached to the same carbon atom; and R 1 is H or C n H 2n OH or C m H 2m OZ; or R is C(CH 2 OH) 3 or -C(CH 2 OZ) 2 -CH 2 OH and R 1 is H; or R and R 1 , together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated heterocyclic ring which is substituted by at least one C 1-3 hydroxyalkyl in which the OH group may be esterified by 2; m is 1 to 6 and n is 1, 3, 4, 5 or 6 are prepared by reacting 2-(4- chlorophenoxy)-2-methylpropionic acid or functional derivatives thereof with the appropriate amino alcohols of the formula HN(R<SP>1</SP>)R<SP>1</SP> 1 , wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>1</SP> 1 are any of the unesterified groups represented by R and R<SP>1</SP>, followed by if desired esterification, of one or more of the OH groups present. 2 - (4 - Chlorophenoxy) - 2 - methylpropionyl chloride is obtained by reacting the acid with thionyl chloride. Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for oral administration, contain the above novel compounds together with excipients. The compounds possess antilipemic and anticholestrolemic activities.
