Work-holders.-A device for holding planes, gauges, chisels, &c. during sharpening comprises a bar a having at one end a handle b and at the other end a gudgeon c located in an aperture d in the frame e of the grindstone, and two cheeks j formed thereon adapted to receive a cylindrical plug k. This has two arms l each carrying, by means of a pin m, a jaw n; the plane &c. o is held by the jaws and is set to give the correct angle to the cutting-edge by means of a bolt s carried by the core, and held in position by a nut t engaging the cheeks. In operation, the necessary pressure and the motion to and fro across the grindstone are given by hand by means of the handle b; when not in operation, the bar a is retained out of position bv a rod h. Blades, irons, &c. may also be held during sharpening by a jaw u cast in one with one of the arms l and having a clamping-plate and screw v.
