Abstract
1309216 Aromatic polyamide moulding composition CELANESE CORP 9 Dec 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 57139/71 Heading C3R A moulding composition comprising a wholly aromatic linear polyamide and a filler is prepared by forming a uniform mixture of the filler and particulate precipitated polyamide in a liquid medium, recovering the mixture of solids, and drying it, the particulate polyamide having been obtained by adding a non-solvent to a solution of the polyamide of concentration not substantially higher than 20 wt. per cent. The precipitation of the polyamide may be effected prior to forming the uniform mixture in the liquid medium or in situ therein. Various polyamide-forming monomers, solvents and non- solvents are specified; the polyamide preferably has an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0À5 in ochlorophenol at 25 C. Specified fillers are graphite, glass fibres, asbestos, cellulose or synthetic fibres, mica, cotton fabric paper and metallic powders. Colourants, plasticizers, stabilizers or hardeners may also be included. Compositions containing graphite are suitable for non-lubricated bearings.
