Abstract

1309045 Moisture-hardenable polyurethane lacquers HENKEL & CIE GmbH 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 20108/71 Heading C3R Moisture-hardenable polyurethane lacquers having between 1 and 10% by weight of free isocyanate groups are prepared by reacting a prepolymer (A) obtained by slowly adding 1 mol of a polyunsaturated higher fatty alcohol having more than 12 carbon atoms in the molecule to 1 mol. of a diisocyanate and reacting the reaction product with 1 mol. of a triol, with (B) a diisocyanate. Especially suitable polyunsaturated higher fatty alcohols are mixtures obtained by catalytic hydrogenation, with retention of the double bonds, of the methyl esters of the fatty acids of linseed oil or soya bean oil, and these are preferably added to 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate, followed by reaction of the product with trimethylolpropane, trimethylolethane or addition products of propylene oxide with glycerine, trimethylol-propane, trimethylolethane or hexanetriol to form the prepolymer (A). The preferred diisocyanate (B) is 4,4<SP>1</SP>-diphenylmethane diisocyanate. Other polyols may be added to the mixture of (A) and (B) as a reactant. Conventional solvents may be used in the formation of the lacquer and siccatives, especially zirconyl acetyl-acetonate may be added. Examples describe the coating of phosphated iron sheets.
