Abstract

1308780 De-icing compositions FISONS Ltd 16 Dec 1970 [20 Dec 1969] 62175/69 Heading C4X A de-icing composition comprises an alkali and/or alkaline earth metal chloride and less than 50% by wt. thereof of an ammonium and/or calcium orthophosphate. The chloride may be NaCl or CaCl 2 , e.g. rock salt, and the phosphate monoammonium orthophosphate, single or triple (calcium) superphosphate, by-product gypsum from the phosphoric acid wet process, or ammoniated superphosphate. In one method of application the chloride and orthophosphate are mixed, optionally with grit or sand, and the dry blend is scattered over a roadway. In another, salt and gravel are mixed and scattered, e.g. by a spinning disc, and the orthophosphate is added to the fan of salt and sand leaving the scatterer as a spray of aqueous solution or slurry.
