Abstract

130,873. Goold, L. W., (American Laundry Machinery Co.). Nov. 27. 1918. Ironing-machines with pressing action only; steaming-apparatus.-Relates to means for remoing the gloss from the surface of garments after being steamed and pressed. The invention is shown applied to a machine having a fixed steaming buck and a pivoted heated head. The buck 2 comprises a lower steam-heated chamber and an upper steaming-chamber supplied with steam by a treadle-controlled valve. The presser-head 23, pivoted at 21 to arms 20 pivoted to the machine frame, has a heating-chamber 24 communicating by the pipe 36, hand-controlled valve 33, and passage 30, with a steaming-channel 28. The glossremoving member 48 comprises a cooling-chamber having its surfaces corresponding with those of the buck and the presser-head. and supplied with water through pipes 51. It is mounted on runners travelling in grooves 41 in frames 40 attached to the sides of the buck, so that it can be run into or out of position as desired. In a modification, the presser-head serves as the glossremoving means by circulating water in a chamber 24, the steaming-arrangements being dispensed with.
