Ironing-machines with hand-operated flat-irons; ironing, steaming and damping apparatus for.- Parts of garments, particularly the seams and cuffs of sleeves and trouser legs, are laid upon a fixed steam-heated bed 3, Fig. 1, and are pressed by a steam-heated hand-operated iron 6 provided with perforations in the base through which steam may be admitted to the work during pressing, under the control of a valve having a handle 30 within the handle 9 of the iron. The iron is pivotally mounted within the end of a link 11 connected by a link 12 with a vertically movable member 13. Steam is supplied to a chamber 14, Fig. 3, in the iron through a supply pipe 17 and a longitudinal pipe 15. The steaming valve 28 is normally held closed by a spring 31, and the steam issues through perforations 24 in the central part of the base of the iron. Steam passes from the heating-chamber of the iron to the bed through a pipe 19, 20, and is discharged, together with water of condensation, through a pipe 23 at the lowest point of the sloping bottom of the bed. Hollow parts such as sleeves are passed over a flat plate 34, Fig. 7, pivoted to a clamp 36 and adapted to be raised bv a treadle 37. Sleeve cuffs and similar parts are placed over pivoted plates 40, Fig. 8, adapted to be raised by a treadle 45 and links 44, 43. Steam may be admitted to the work from the interior of the bed.
