Abstract

130,871. Raalten, C. D. van. Nov. 22, 1918. Travelling - b a n d presses.-In presses for sugar-cane and the like, of the kind in which the cane &c. is crushed between upper and lower endless bands consisting of plates, the plates of the upper band are provided with racks for engaging pinions on the shafts of pressure rollers, arranged so that high pressures can be applied without being transmitted to the racks and pinions. As shown, the plates of the upper band 1 are provided with racks 11, Fig. 2, engaging pinions 10 on pressure rollers 12, which bear on side flanges 13 on the racks, the pitch circles of the pinions being approximately of the same diameter as the rollers. Pressure devices, preferably hydraulic rams, engage blocks 9 which rest on the bearings of the roller shaft 7. The plates of the lower band 2 are supported by rollers 14 on the shafts 8, which are geared to the shafts 7 by pinions 16, 15 and are driven by a motor. The bands pass over hexagonal pulleys 5. Juice passes through perforations in the plates of the lower band and is caught in a pan 17.
