Abstract
1308324 Fuseheads DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 20 April 1971 [4 Feb 1970] 5356/70 Heading F3A A process for the manufacture of a fusehead comprises forming a suspension of a primary explosive composition in water containing one or more hydrophylic polymers in a proportion in the range 1-10% by weight of the dry primary explosive composition, immersing. a bridgewire 6 in the suspension, removing the bridgewire and adhering material and allowing the fusehead so produced to dry. The bridgewire 6, which is of platinum, extends across the stepped corner 4 of an insulating board 1 and is soldered at 7 to brass foils 5. The polymer is methyl cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose or polyvinyl alcohol. The explosive composition is beta monobasic or normal lead styphnate; acid, basic or normal 4,6-dinitroresorcinol; lead or silver azide; monobasic lead azotetrazole; barium styphnate; potassium or lead piorate; or the lead salts of trinitrophloroglucinol. A fuel and/or oxidant may be contained in the explosive composition. A lacquer of a hydrophobic colloid covers the fusehead.
