Abstract

1307769 Load suspension from helicopters WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd 23 June 1971 [8 July 1970] 33050/70 Heading B7W [Also in Division F2] A helicopter has load suspension means 11, 15, 16, 17 passing through an aperture 14 in a fuselage floor structure, wherein a damping member 22 is resiliently supported, for example by resilient tubes 20, 21 mounted by pivotal connections on flanges 19, in the aperture 14 for contact by the load suspension means when swinging movements of the suspension means reach a predetermined limit. The suspension means includes a hoist 11 mounted at 12 for swinging longitudinally or laterally and is rotatable through a joint 16, a hook 15 for engaging a load and a snubber ring 17 which engages the damping member 22 in the form of a ring at said predetermined limit. The mount 12 is preferably at the centre of gravity of the helicopter and the resilient support for the damping member may include shock absorbers instead of the tubes 20, 21.
