Abstract

130,738. Clayton & Co., and Jemmison, J. W. Aug. 2, 1918. Sweeping - machines; taking up mud and refuse, for removal.-Relates to machines of the type described in Specification 25048/10 having a rotary brush which sweeps round an enclosing - casing into a receptacle, and particularly to machines as described in Specification 15323/15, in which the brush in the casing is located clear of the ground, a second brush sweeping the refuse from the road into the casing. The invention consists in delivering the refuse from the casing into a second casing, which is cleared by a rotary cylindrical brush or conveyer delivering either directly or through a succession of similar casings to a receptacle. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a sweeping-machine, as described in Specification 15323/15, in which the road brush f sweeps the refuse up an inclined plate h into a casing j cleared by a conveyer brush k which is rotated on the wheel axle c in opposite direction to the wheels e by epicyclic gearing l arranged between gears on the wheel and brush respectively. According to the present invention, the brush k delivers through a gap p into a second casing n cleared by a rotary brush conveyer m driven by chain gear o from the wheel e and delivering in turn through a gap r into a receptacle s. This receptacle, which is disposed between the front and rear wheels of the vehicle, has a central partition t curving at the bottom to hinged side doors u. The brush f may be raised from the ground by the gear described in Specification 15323/15. The brush f may, however, be dispensed with, in which case the brush k engages the ground. The refuse may be conveyed successively through any number of brush casings such as j, n before being delivered to the receptacle,
