Abstract
1306768 Coating apparatus CONTINENTAL OIL CO 28 July 1971 [2 Dec 1970] 35498/71 Heading C7F [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for plating heat-resistant substrates from an atomized plating solution comprises a hollow reaction chamber 10 having a hopper 20 for introducing substrates 28 into the upper portion thereof, heating means 14 positioned along the walls of said chamber, a plurality of spray nozzles 12 dispersed in the walls of, and facing into, said chamber, a plating solution container 22 communicating with said spray nozzles for the transfer of plating solution into the reaction chamber baffles 16 for tumbling said substrates by gravity through the chamber, and substrate collecting chamber 18. Metal articles, preferably heated to 550- 800F. prior to feeding in (heating coil 32) may be plated with Al by spraying with a compound Al RR 2 where R = C 1 - C 30 alkyl, R<SP>1</SP> = R or H, preferably AlHEt 2 , which may be in a solvent such as an inert petroleum distillate; typically a 50:50 mixture of AlEt 2 H/kerosene is used and atomized using an inert gas.
