Abstract
130,644. Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Kasley, A. T.). March 31, 1917, [Convention date]. Torpedoes, locomotive.-Relates to screw propellers of the kind in which blades project beyond the periphery of the torpedo during the run, but are previously folded one behind another, so as to fit within the torpedo tube. According to the invention, the foldable blade or blades is circumferentially and longitudinally movable with relation to the other blade or blades. In the form shown, the boss 9 of the blade 8 is fixed to the shaft 11, which is threaded to receive the tapped boss 7 of the second blade 12. A serrated surface 15 on the boss 7 engages and becomes locked to a corresponding surface on the boss 9 when the movable blade 12 is in the driving position. Two such propellers are intended to be used side by side rotating in opposite directions.
