Abstract

1306069 Making cigarette filter rod COURTAULDS Ltd 12 June 1970 [14 March 1969] 13525/69 Heading A2C [Also in Division D1] The rod is made by opening a tow of crimped thermoplastic filaments, deregistering said crimp, applying a plasticizer or adhesive composition to the opened tow, feeding the tow into a compartment adjacent to the garniture of a cigaretting machine wherein it is held as a reservoir, withdrawing the tow directly from the reservoir into said garniture, and cigaretting the tow to form filter rod. The tow is fed into a stuffing box, which acts as the reservoir, through the nip between a pair of inlet rollers. Control apparatus may be provided to relate the speed of rotation of the inlet rollers to the rate of tow usage in the garniture.
