Abstract

1306068 Checking and measuring devices NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 5 March 1970 [11 March 1969] 12833/69 Headings G1M and G1N] An apparatus for checking and/or measuring dimensions of a workpiece comprises a support 11 with orthogonally disposed slideways providing means for adjusting the position of a rotatably mounted head 10 mounted on the support, a slide 12 on the head movable towards and away from the axis of rotation of the head in response to a driving means 14, 15, 19, slide 12 carrying a lever 22 on which a probe 28, 29 is mounted, the lever being pivoted such that the probe is movable radially towards and away from the said axis and the lever being arranged to operate a transducer 21 which provides a signal indicative of the radial movement of the probe. A second transducer 24 arranged on the lever substantially at right angles to the first may be provided. Support 11 is movable by means of three orthogonal slideways 46, 48, 49 with respective carriages and by a rotary bearing 51 to swing about an axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the head. Vernier scales 52a to 52d are provided to enable gauging of the movements of the support. The transducers are of the electromagnetic type. Styli 25, 26 are carried on rods which move armatures between two induction coils and thereby unbalance a bridge circuit.
