Abstract
130,575. Soc. Anon. des Etablissements L. BlÚriot. July 31, 1918, [Convention date]. Dynamos, regulating; exciting.-One or more quick-acting regulators are used to control electric apparatus, for example the voltage of a generator, by not only periodically weakening or open-circuiting the field coil &c., but by causing therein a reversal of current flow in a continuous manner. In one arrangement, four regulators b<1>, b<2>, Fig. 1, are placed as a generator shunt to form a bridge, the field coil a being connected to opposite corners. With excess voltage, the regulators b<1> open and the regulators b<2> close. According as the voltage is high or low, the regulators cause a current flow in one direction or the other in the field coil. Two regulators may be used to produce the same effect or only one. In the latter case, the field coil a is connected to an intermediate brush d, the regulator completing the circuit to one or other of the main brushes according to the state of the voltage. A separate shunt field a' and series field a<2> may be used with the field a. One or more resistances may be used in the exciting circuits and the contacts of the regulator may be shunted by condensers, impedances, or resistance. The contacts on one side may be shunted by a resistance and a resistance included in the circuit on the other side. When a Rosenberg generator is used, the field coil is connected to the short-circuited arma. ture winding. The field coil may be excited by two halves of a battery, the direction of current flow depending on which portion is in circuit. The regulator may be used in systems as described in Specification 120,545, [Class 38 (iv), Electric supply and transmission systems &c.], in which a variable-speed generator and battery supply lamps, the voltage in which is maintained constant by a series resistance in the lamp circuit controlled by a quick-acting regulator. The regulator may control the field of an exciter instead of acting directly on the main field. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the following:- As applied to a battery charging and lighting system supplied from a dynamo A, Fig. 20 (Cancelled), the oppositely acting regulators b<1>, b<2> control exciting windings on the field of a machine D, whose armature is mounted on the dynamo shaft. The armature winding is placed between the battery and the lamps and controls the voltage supplied, the variation being effected by the regulators. The two regulators may be replaced by one. A motor E and exciting dynamo F are used as described in Specification 24629/14. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
