Abstract
1305711 Air filter D A G MARSHALL 1 April 1970 [18 March 1969] 14149/69 Heading BIT A fluid filter comprises a layer of "Davey gauge" (a metal gauge of 28-100 mesh) bonded to a layer of filter material. The bonding is effected by applying a mesh 12 of molten synthetic plastics material, e.g. polythene, to the filter 10 and then pressing the gauge onto the filter so that a bond is formed as the mesh dries. A further layer of filter material 14 may be similarly bonded to the other side of the gauge. Other filter materials specified are filter paper, micro-glass paper or demembraned foamed synthetic plastics material, these optionally bonded to a sheet of phenolic resinimpregnated glass cloth and pleated, and random fibre mat, e.g. of nylon, woven filtering mat or cellular material containing activated carbon. The polythene bonding mesh may have a strengthening core of string, chord, wire or nylon. The filters of the invention are non- propogating with regard to flames and are used in air-ventilation equipment.
