Abstract

1305652 Magnetic couplings; mounting rotors; core constructions STANDARD MAGNET AG 10 Feb 1970 [10 Feb 1969 30 Dec 1969] 44730/72 Divided out of 1305651 Heading H2A [Also in Division F1] A magnetic transmission driving a pump or compressor impeller comprises a first pole ring formed as a unit with the impeller and located in a chamber formed in part in the region of the pole ring by a magnetically pervious separating wall, a second pole ring (driven by a motor) and an intermediate magnetic core being located outside the chamber and at least one of the pole rings comprising permanent or electromagnets. In the centrifugal pump shown in Fig. 1 the first pole ring 122 is of part-spherical form and the core 17 comprises a stack of laminations outside the wall 124 and surrounded by the second pole ring 120 which consists of radially magnetized permanent magnets. The separating wall, particularly in the case of a compressor, Fig. 2 (not shown), may consist of synthetic resin with a thin layer of metal and pole shoes (132) may be provided on the core adjacent the outer pole ring. Fig. 3 shows a bore hole pump in which the pole rings 115, 112 are of frusto-conical shape and a core 113 of similar shape is secured to a frusto-conical separating wall 114. In a further arrangement applied to an axial flow pump, Fig. 4, the driving pole ring 102 is located inside the core 103 and the separating wall 109, which surrounds the core, supports a cup 108 carrying a central bearing 107 on which the part-spherical driven pole ring 106 and impeller 105 rotate. The pole rings and core may be arranged face-to-face, Fig. 9 (not shown), with the impeller supported on a single bearing similar to that shown in Fig. 4, the core in this case comprising a spirally wound metal strip with poles formed along one edge. In all the above embodiments, the core may consist of circumferentially separate magnetic conductors co-operating with pole rings according to any of the constructions shown in the parent Specification.
