Abstract

1304136 Resettable counters VEEDER INDUSTRIES Inc 26 Aug 1971 [8 Sept 1970] 40099/71 Heading G4D A counter which can be reset to a variable preset count includes a resetting member which moves in a first direction to cause the counter wheels to be reset. During this motion presetting mechanism for stepping each of the wheels to a desired count is held inoperative. The resetting member now moves in a second direction, allowing the wheels to be stepped to the desired count but preventing resetting cams from being rotated. The resetting member 64, Figs. 2 and 3, is initially moved horizontally by pushing button 20 to the right. This causes resetting fingers 62 to be brought down on the heart-shaped resetting cams. The cams are on wheels which move with the counter wheels during counting and resetting but which can move independently of the counter wheels during presetting. At the same time the transfer wheels 50 are pulled away from the counter wheels. During horizontal movement of member 64 a lug 122 on button 20 holds arm 116 in the position shown in Fig. 2, the arm preventing each pawl 102 from engaging the teeth 38 of the associated counter wheel, towards which it is urged by eccentrically-mounted spring 108. When member 64 has been pushed sufficiently far to the right it pivots about shaft 74 as eccentric plug 82 enters the vertical slot 84. The plug prevents spring 68 from returning member 64 to its normal position. Because button 20 has moved upwards arm 116 release the pawls 102 so that when any of the presetting buttons 26 is pressed the corresponding counter wheel will be stepped. The cam wheels are prevented from moving by the resetting fingers 62. When button 20 is pressed down, plug 82 is disengaged from the vertical slot, pawls 102 are disengaged, and spring 68 urges member 64 to the left with consequential release of the resetting fingers.
