Abstract

1304122 Automatic control systems H W ANGELERY 19 Aug 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 39034/71 Heading G3R [Also in Division H5] A control system for an electrode boiler (see Division H3-5) includes means for controlling the distances between pairs of electrodes 20 and the insertion of insulating shutters therebetween. A thermistor senses the water temperature and supplies an input signal to apparatus demand limiter 34 across terminals 77, 78. A further input is from the current supplied to the electrodes 20, inducing a current in the windings of a current transformer 80 which is applied to a rectifier 82. The rectifier output is taken from an adjustable voltage divider 84 and added in reverse series to the signal from the thermistor. The output from terminals 86, 88, stabilizes before the power demand becomes undesirably high. The boiler heats water or oil or makes steam, and a steam pressure sensor may replace the thermistor in the latter case. The output from terminals 86, 88 is supplied to a plant demand limiter, which limits the output of limiter 34 in accordance with the power demands of other equipment before the output of limiter 34 is supplied to the electro-motive unit controlling the movable electrodes and shutters.
