Abstract
1304003 Sampling liquids IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 March 1970 [28 March 1969] 16455/69 Heading B8N [Also in Division B1] A liquid in pipe 10 (Fig. 3) is sampled by regulating the flow of a carrier liquid in line 9 at two points, one upstream and one downstream of the sample source, the rate of flow upstream of the source being regulated to be less than that at the point downstream of the source by an amount equal to the rate of sample inflow from line 10. The sample liquid is preferably degassed by tangential injection through entry part 2 of cylinder 1 (Fig. 1) when it falls in a thin continuous film down the inner surface of the cylinder to exit port 5 and thence to the sampling device. The pressure in the system is controlled by controlling the pressure at the gas exit port 3. The pumps 7, 8 may be diaphragm pumps, the diaphragms being driven by pulses from actuators 13, 14 under control of timer 15 so that the pulses are 180 degrees out of phase. There is reference to sampling an oxidation reaction mixture containing a catalyst which would precipitate in the absence of an oxygen atmosphere, and to sampling slurries.
