Abstract
1303731 Rocket motors MESSERSCHMITTBOLKOW-BLOHM GmbH 26 May 1970 [23 May 1969] 25320/70 Heading F3A A rocket motor comprises an end-burning propellant charge 7 formed with a bore 10 through which the hot propellant gases can pass, the bore being provided with insulation 15 which is progressively destroyed at a slower rate than that at which the propellant charge burns away (see broken lines 17). The insulation 15 consists of a layer 14 of non-inflammable material, which is capacable of being destroyed by scaling when subject to hot propellant gases or flames on both sides, and a layer 16 of combustible material, e.g. plastics, which has a slower rate of combustion than the propellant charge and has an elasticity to enable it to take up the thermal expansion of the propellant charge. The propellant charge is arranged to burn from both ends. An additional charge 6 is also provided. (For Figure see next page.)
