Abstract

1303322 Straightening AEG-ELOTHERM GmbH 14 April 1970 [25 Nov 1969] 17700/70 Heading B3E A workpiece 14 to be straightened is supported at each end and rotated whilst being heated by a linear inductor 16, straightening means 15 are then advanced into contact with the workpiece substantially simultaneously with shutting off the inductor, and the workpiece is cooled whilst in rotating contact with the straightening means. A number of rotatable work-holders are mounted on a turret 13 which is indexed in the direction 17 to move the heated and straightened workpiece through a quenching tank 12. Additional sprays 18, 18a may be used to accelerate the quenching. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the tank 12 is omitted and quenching is effected solely by sprays. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), rotatable workholders are mounted at the end of a pivoted arm (24) which moves the heated and straightened workpiece (26) to a quenching spray (31) or into an agitated liquid. The arm may be pivoted about a vertical or horizontal axis.
