Abstract
1302895 Liquid fuel supplies for burners ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 9 Feb 1970 [7 Feb 1969 23 Oct 1969] 6653/69 and 51902/69 Heading F4T In a fuel supply arrangement to a burner 10 having a reservoir 11, fuel is supplied by an electrically operated bellows 13 from a storage tank 12 to the burner reservoir, the fuel level in the reservoir being controlled by a float operated control valve 31. As shown in Fig. 3, the valve 31 comprises a flexible strip 32 anchored at one end 33 and covering the valve seat or fuel outlet 34, the fuel outlet being positioned above the fuel level in the reservoir. A pivoted bell crank lever has a float 37 attached to one arm 35a, and a valve actuating pin 38 fixed to the other arm 35b. Fuel is pumped through a fuel supply pipe 30 past the strip 32 to the reservoir, the strip 32 returning to its seat 34 after each pumping stroke assisted by a U- shaped member 38a attached to the pin 38. As the fuel reaches the required level, the float 37 moves upwards, causing the pin 38 to move the strip 32 away from its seat, so that on the next suction stroke the pump merely draws in air through the open valve 31, preventing further supply of fuel. An alternative valve (Fig. 4, not shown) is described in which the valve closing member is in the form of a disc (40) which is actuated by a spindle (42) fixed to a float 43. Also described is an arrangement for fuel supply to several burners (Figs. 2 and 5, not shown) in which the float operated fuel level control valve (50) is closed by the action of the float (55), a pressure relief valve (56) being provided in the system. In all cases, a non-return valve (25, Fig. 6, not shown) is used as an outlet from the storage tank. In installations where the maximum fuel level in the storage tank is above the fuel level outlet of the control valve, an anti-siphon device is included in the fuel supply line between the storage tank and the pump.
