Abstract
1302855 Resistance heating elements AGAR & SKA AUTOMATION CO Ltd 20 Jan 1970 [21 Jan 1969] 3352/79 Heading H5H [Also in Division D1] An electrical heating unit for producing localized heating of areas of metal to relieve stresses during manufacture comprises a woven metallic fibre mat composed entirely of metal warp and weft threads 68, 72, Fig. 8, and an insulated heating element 74 which is woven into the fabric as a plurality of weft picks. The warps 68 are formed by metal ribbons and the wefts 72 by metal wires, both of nickel-chromium alloy whilst the heating element 74 is preferably nickel chromium alloy or titanium alloy resistance wire within a sleeve of insulating material, such as silica fibre, surrounded by a sleeve of nickel-chromium alloy braid. In one embodiment employing titanium alloy braid as the heating element the straight portions are contained within ceramic tubing whereas the bends are enclosed in ceramic bead or fibre insulation. In Fig. 6 the element comprises an inner conductor 77 of nickel-chromium alloy braid enclosed by insulator 78 and an outer nickel-chromium alloy braid sleeve 80 and an end connector therefor comprises a nickel or copper wire 82 connected to the inner braid 77 by a stainless steel sleeve 84 crimped thereon.
