Abstract

1302583 Rotary plate extruder SOC D' ETUDES VERRIERES APPLIQUEES 18 June 1970 [19 June 1969] 29544/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B1] In a device for plasticizing and extruding, or mixing materials (and which may be provided with cooling means), comprising a stator 4 between which and a rotor 1 the material is inwardly impelled from a circumferential annular space 10 to an inner outlet 6, e.g. an extrusion die for a plurality of filaments or for a rod, the material, e.g. powdered polyvinyl chloride for extrusion, is fed into the space 10 from a hopper 7 by a variable speed metering screw, which is driven independently of the vertical rotor shaft 2, and is displaced inwardly into the gap 5 between the rotor 1 and stator 4 by a crown of deflecting hooks 11 which are attached to the rotor 1 and rotate within the annular space 10. The hooks 11 are profiled so that they sweep through the entire volume of the space 10, the leading edge 22, as in Fig. 3 wherein six hooks 11 are provided, scraping the outer wall of the space 10 and the trailing part projecting across the width of the space 10, to sweep material inwardly, from a flat ring 25 with which the hooks are integral and by which they are attached to the rotor 5. In the Fig. 5 embodiment, six hooks are provided having a front edge 32 and a dependent outer side wall 33, and the Fig. 7 embodiment (not printed) discloses two similar hooks.
