Abstract
1302441 Epoxide compounds SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 16 March 1970 [14 March 1969 4 Sept 1969 6 Oct 1969] 12596/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Epoxides are produced by reacting an olefin, an ethylenically unsaturated alcohol or an ethylenically unsaturated or carboxylic acid with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst comprising-(a) an organo-tin compound containing a hydroxyl group or a group hydrolysable to a hydroxyl group in the presence of water or hydrogen peroxide and (b) at least one compound containing at least one of Mo, W, V, Se or B. Specified reactants are propylene, normal but-1-ene or but-2-ene, iso-butene, 1,3- butadiene, allyl alcohol, methyl allyl-alcohol, allyl chloride, iso-octane, styrene, alpha-methyl styrene, soybean oil, oleic acid, cyclohexene, 4- cyanocyclohexene, cyclooctadiene and cyclododecatriene. Reaction conditions specified are - 20‹ to + 150‹ C., 1 to 100 atmos. pressure, a reaction time of 1 minute to 100 hours and a mole ratio of olefin to hydrogen peroxide of 1: 30 to 30 1.
