Abstract
1302370 Optical scanning apparatus BATTELLE DEVELOPMENT CORP 22 Dec 1969 41405/72 Divided out of 1302368 Headings G4M and G5R [Also in Division G2] A resilient arm 80 is fixed at one end to a rotatable support 66 and carries a mirror 78, and an electrical control signal is supplied to a coil 88 to tilt the mirror 78 while support 66 is rotating so that the mirror provides a spiral scanning track on an image plane 22, the mirror 78 being moved away from the plane 22 as it is tilted to scan inwards so that the optical path length between mirror 78 and plane 22 remains substantially constant. Preferably, deflection of arm 80 is assisted by the centrifugal effect of a weight 90, and the motor driving support 66 is controlled so that its speed increases as the scan moves radially inwards. The scanner may be used to record and play back serial information on a photographic recording medium.
