Abstract

1302236 Packaging in waxed cloth W R GRACE & CO 18 Sept 1970 [8 Dec 1969] 44646/70 Heading B8C A package comprises an article having exposed sharp and/or bony surface portions, a waximpregnated cloth of non-woven, bonded, synthetic fibres covering the exposed sharp and/or bony portions and a heat-shrinkable or shrunk plastics material surrounding the article and wax-impregnated cloth. The fibres may be spun-bonded, tightly pressed and matted spun olefin fibres and the wax may be a petroleum wax optionally containing a plasticizer. Preferably the cloth is perforated and made of polyethylene fibre. A bone-in cut of meat may be packaged in a heat-shrinkable plastics film by covering the exposed bone with the waximpregnated cloth, placing the cut of meat and wax-impregnated cloth in a heat-shrinkable plastics packaging material, evacuating the heat-shrinkable bag before sealing its open end and heat-shrinking the packaging material around the bone-in cut of meat. Heat-shrinkable plastics materials mentioned are vinylidene chloride resins, rubber hydrochloride, polyethylene and polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate.
