Abstract
1301983 Steam traps K FUJIWARA 25 Feb 1971 5472/71 Heading F4U A thermodynamically actuated or "floating disc" type of steam trap comprises a disc valve 13 located in a pressure chamber 12 connecting inlet and outlet ports 2, 3 via inlet and outlet passages 6, 7 having valve seats 8, 9, which valve is controlled by a bimetal ring 14 which either expands or contracts in size on cooling to co-operate with a conical inclined surface 15 on the lower side of an annular member 17 disposed in an annular space 12a above the ring so as to cause the member to rise and to lift the disc valve off the valve seats 8, 9. An inner cover 11 providing a wall surrounding the valve seat is screwed to the body 1 of the trap and has an overhung shoulder 11a to prevent the member 17 being raised beyond a fixed height. Annular grooves 18, 19 in the outer wall of the seat 8 and cover 11 form receptacles for dust or particles to allow free expansion of the bimetal ring. In further modifications, the inclined surface on the member 17 is inverted (Fig. 3, not shown) or a flat annular member 17 is used and the conical surface is formed on the valve seat 8 (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown).
