Abstract

1301828 Esters of sulphoarylcarboxylic acids AGFA GEVAERT 26 April 1971 [4 June 1970] 27050/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein M is H, alkali metal, NH 4 or organic ammonium, A is aralkylene or arylene, m is 0 to 30 and R is a branched chain C 10 to C 2o aliphatic group, preferably a group of the formula wherein n is 0 or 1, R 3 is H or when is 1 may be alkyl and each of R 1 and R 2 is a straightchain or branched-chain alkyl group or together form an alicyclic ring structure. They may be prepared by reacting alicyclic alcohols or branched-chain alcohols or ethoxylated derivatives thereof with sulphocarboxylic anhydrides or acid chlorides, or by transesterification reactions. Examples are given for the preparation of the compounds. They are useful as coating aids for film-forming coating compositions.
