Abstract

1301589 Foundry moulding and patterns CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 20 April 1970 18817/70 Heading B3F [Also in Division B5] A pattern P for the preparation of a resinbonded sand foundry mould for a sealing ring has a rigid metallic portion 20 and a flexible back-draft forming portion 21, e.g. of silicone rubber. During moulding, the pattern P with a sprue-forming block is mounted in a flask on a heated bottom board 22 and a heat-settable resin/sand mixture is supplied to the flask. After heat-setting the foundry mould M is removed from the flask, the back-draft pattern portion 21 flexing so as not to damage the mould M. The flexible back-draft pattern portion 21 is mounted on a ring 23 (Fig. 8) which, by slots 24, engages pins 20b in a groove 20a of the rigid metal pattern portion 20 so that when the flexible portion 21 is worn it may be replaced.
