Abstract

1301211 Packaging stacks of articles NORDISCHER MASCHINENBAU RUD BAADER 16 Dec 1970 59720/70 Heading B8C Aligning and conveying apparatus for tunnels for shrinking and cooling stacks 5 wrapped with shrinkable film, comprises, in combination an endless belt conveyer 29 provided with transmissions for two speeds, adapted to operate intermittently and having disposed thereabove at least one alignment apparatus adapted to adjust the leading side surface of a stack 5 and an adjoining continuously circulating tunnel belt conveyer 9 for supporting the stack with a further belt conveying means 13 for applying counter pressure and operating at the same speed and in the same direction as the tunnel belt conveyer and adapted to thrust the stack against the tunnel belt conveyer and being adapted automatically to adjust its spacing from the tunnel belt conveyer in accordance with the stack height. As shown, the belt 13 is formed by a pair of endless chains connected by cross-rods which support through ball members, weights 23. The alignment apparatus comprises a pair of doors 35 each supported on an arm 36 which is pivotally mounted on shafts 48, 49 adjacent the conveyer 29, the arms 36 being interconnected through linkage 38, 41, 42 for simultaneous operation. In use a wrapped stack is moved by the conveyer 29 against the doors 35 and operates a switch 59 to stop the conveyer 29. A follow-up system (not shown) actuates a piston and cylinder device 46, 47 to "open" the doors 35 whereafter a pulse transmitter 52 is actuated to restart the conveyer 29 at a lower speed to transfer the stack to conveyer 9. A weight 23 which reaches the conveyer 9 simultaneously with the stack is moved towards the latter by an inclined section of the belt 13 and is deposited on the stack and moves therewith through the tunnel until it reaches a further inclined section of belt 13 at the exit end of the tunnel where it is lifted from the stack. The apparatus may be controlled electrically, hydraulically or pneumatically.
