Abstract

1301186 Cross-bar switches INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 21 April 1970 [25 April 1969] 18972/70 Heading H1L In a cross-bar switch each selecting finger at a cross-point is displaced in a first direction against its own resilience by displacement of an operate bar, is displaced in a second direction at right angles thereto by displacement of a select bar and on release for movement in the first direction by restoration of said operate bar moves under its own resilience into engagement with a fixed contact to complete a connection. In one form (Fig. 2) the selecting fingers 17, 18, 19 &c. are mounted on a support 4 and are electrically interconnected in rows by printed circuit conductors 5. The free ends of a pair of selecting fingers at a single crosspoint pass through an aperture including four notches 21 to 24. In the both rest and operate positions the fingers are bowed and by their resilience are each pressed into the bottom of a notch 12 shown by finger 19 which is in its rest notch 23. To move finger 19 and the other finger of its pair (not shown but located in rest notch 21) from the rest notches 21 and 23 to the operate notches 22 and 26, in which the fingers engage fixed contacts 26, an operate bar 31 is displaced longitudinally and to the left as shown withdrawing the pairs of selection fingers associated with that bar from the notches in which they are located, a select bar 27 is displaced longitudinally to the right as shown causing only the pair of selection fingers located at the intersection of the displaced operate and select bars to be moved in front of their operate notches, the operate bar is restored allowing the selected pair of select fingers to be guided by the select bar into the operate notches where they firmly engage the contacts 26 due to their resilience. The select bar can now be restored and the connection holds until the operate bar is again displaced. In a modification (Fig. 11) the operate notches have conductive coatings 57 and the outlet conductors 55 are printed circuit paths.
