Abstract

1301124 Surgical infusion and drainage K KUFFER and D STRUB 6 May 1970 [15 July 1969] 21758/70 Heading A5R [Also in Division F2] A check valve for draining fluid into the vascular system or into a body cavity for the treatment of hydrocephalus internus or externus has a hollow piston 6 biassed by a spring 11 into contact with a conical seat 3a on a connector 3 screwed into the proximal end of the valve body 2. The spring-bias is adjusted by a screw 12 which together with the piston 6 is provided with four longitudinal flow-permitting grooves 12b, 10. All ports of the valve are of synthetic material, preferably polyphenylenotide, apart from the metal spring 11, which is separated from the fluid by the end 12c of the screw moving in the bore 7 of the piston. A catheter 16 is secured on conical and cylindrical parts 3f, 3e of the connector 3 by a sleeve 13 screwed on to part 3d until it abuts shoulder 3c. A similar arrangement of connector 4, sleeve 14 and catheter 17 is provided at the distal end of the valve.
