Abstract

1300765 Trihalotricyanobenzenes DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP 4 May 1970 [2 June 1969] 21290/70 Addition to 1259173 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the Formula I (where X is a halogen atom). They are prepared by chlorinating trimellitonitrile and if desired reacting the trichlorotrimellitonitrile obtained with an alkali metal fluoride, bromide or iodide. Trichlorotrimellitonitrile may also be prepared by reacting one or more tetrachlorodicyanobenzene isomers with an alkali metal iodide and reacting the product with Cu 2 CN 2 in an aprotic solvent. Examples are given for the production of the compounds. They are useful as pesticides for the control of unwanted organisms on plants. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,026,290.
