Abstract
1299971 Metal sheet feeds; flanging LOCKFORMER CO 11 March 1970 [12 March 1969] 11714/70 Headings B3E and B3W A metal sheet feeding and forming or punching apparatus comprises a sheet receiving station with a sheet forming the station alongside it, a sheet being fed to an upper level of the receiving station, dropped to a lower level and pushed to the forming station, the next sheet to be formed being fed to the upper level of the receiving station as the preceding sheet is being pushed towards the forming station. As shown, Fig. 1, sheets are fed by rollers 88 on to support rods 86 at an upper level of sheet receiving device 12. When a sheet has passed a switch (96), Fig. 4 (not shown), and a time lag has occurred the arms 48, 50 supporting the rods 86 are pivoted outwardly to the broken line position, Fig. 5, by piston and cylinder an arrangements 56, 60, and 80, 82 to drop the sheet on to rollers 32 of a lower level. The arms 50 are adjustably mounted to accommodate 8, different sheet sizes. The rollers 32 move the sheet back towards the entry end of the device until it operates two microswitches 118 which actuate a piston and cylinder 112, 114 to move a carriage 100 carrying pusher fingers 102 transversely of the device 12 into a flanging device 14. Flanging rolls are supported on a fixed carriage 150 and a carriage 142 movable to accommodate different sheet sizes. The carriage 150 carries two sets of roll pairs and is pivotable in end plates (188), (190), Fig. 8 (not shown), through 180 degrees to bring either set into play. The sheets are fed by the pusher fingers 102 between a series of pairs of narrow guide and support plates 210, (208) slidably mounted on rails (220), 212. Adjacent pairs of plates are interconnected by a lazy tongs device 222 to allow for movement of the carriage 142. A series of progressive edge-forming rolls are shown in Fig. 14 and edges formed thereby in Figs. 11-13. The flanging rolls may be replaced by punches.
