Abstract
129,983. Stolp, F. H. May 12, 1917, [Convention date]. Tubes. - In making a tube from a metal strip the strip is held between inner and outer members of the required form, with the lateral edges exposed and thin edges are creased progressively towards an end which bears against an abutment. A flat strip 12, Fig. 7, is placed on the inclined faces 10, 11 of side plates 7, 8 and then forced between them and against a die 9 by a former 13, Fig. 1. The former is then raised and a mandrel 16 advanced by a slide 2 through a guide into the channelled blank which it engages by means of a shoulder 23. The latch 24 is then lifted to allow the mandrel to push the blank past the dies 25 - - 29 which bend and interlock the edges, as shown in Figs. 8, 9, 10 and 11. When the mandrel is withdrawn it collapses, the wedge 22. Fig. 5, remaining stationary till engaged by the pin 30. The Specification in the original form as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that in a modification the dies may move and the mandrel remain fixed. Rods and bars.-In the original form the Specification also states that the machine may be employed to produce mouldings. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
