Abstract
1299802 Induction coupled plasma generators HUMPHREYS CORP 2 Feb 1970 [3 Fob 1969] 4853/70 Heading H5H The invention of Specification 1,231,093 is modified in that an annular stream of a buffer gas is supplied between the auxiliary sheath gas and main plasma gas. The buffer gas is supplied at a velocity intermediate the velocities of said plasma gas and said sheath gas, and thus moderates the velocity transition between the plasma core gas and the sheath gas. The stabilizing structure or transition channel structure comprises a plurality of axially extending, spaced tubes 200 disposed in a ring and supplied with a coolant. The upper ends of each pair of tubes 200 are soldered together to provide a return flow passage for the coolant as in Specification 1,299,803. Outside the ring of tubes 200 is a buffer tube 202 of quartz and then the plasma chamber tube 66<SP>11</SP> surrounded by coil 64<SP>11</SP>.
