1299757 Girdles H M HERBENER 23 Feb 1970 85553/70 Heading A3V A girdle comprises a front panel 21 to which is attached, by means of a pocket assembly 24, an abdominal control unit 50 which includes two hoops 48, 51 joined by a coupling element 52, a rib 47 extending downwards below the bottom of the lower hoop 48 from the coupling element 52. The pocket assembly 24 comprises a forward pocket wall 23 adjacent the front panel 21, an intermediate wall 25, the top of which is located below that of wall 23, and an interior pocket wall 28 having an upturned flap 29 joined to the top of the intermediate wall 25. The lower hoop 48 fits into the pocket formed by wall 28 and its flap 29 and rib 47 fits between walls 25 and 23, guide passage 33' being formed therein by stitching 57 penetrating both walls 23, 25. The upper hoop 51 abuts the top of wall 28 so that both hoops are held in slight compressions between said top 38 and the pocket bottom 56 formed by flap 29. Instead of two hoops a single circular hoop may be used (Fig. 9, not shown) or a heart-shaped hoop may be employed (Fig. 12, not shown). Two methods of making the pocket assembly are described, one involving the use of several fabric pieces (Fig. 7, not shown), and the other using a single fabric blank (Figs. 15 to 17, not shown). When using two hoops, a further rib may be provided which extends upwardly from the top of the upper hoop (Fig. 22, not shown), and various pocket assemblies for such an embodiment are described (Figs. 23, 26 and 27, not shown).
