Abstract

1299501 Dispenser for rolled web GEORGIAPACIFIC CORP 21 Jan 1970 [24 Jan 1969] 2922/70 Heading A4G [Also in Division B4] A dispenser for a roll of paper comprises a cover 92, Fig. 4 having end roll-viewing apertures, lockable at 110 and hingeable downwards at 108 on wallplate 20 and having upper supports 112 for roll 150, the protruding different sized core ends 158 of which are guided at 142 to be resiliently held in bearing recesses 138 with a braking spring 144 pressing on the roll end. Web 160 passes under and over guide means formed by pinch rollers 162, 164 sprung at 208 and around roller 174 to emerge at slot 104. On pulling the web, roller 174 turns with the web taut over longitudinal roller slot 176 and via gearing 226, 228, Fig.5 rotates roller 184 carrying longitudinal, radially curved serrated blade 182 which passes in and out of slot 176 to perforate the web transversely, the blade edge being curved so as to move with the paper at the point of contact and penetrate, e.g. stretchable crepe paper, and not slide over it. After a length of paper has been pulled, a pin 238 acts on cam 234 to rotate lever 230 and press timing suction caps 242, 244 together so that pin 238 abuts stop 236 on lever 230 and abruptly stops the rollers, the increased pull on the paper tearing the perforations. After a time interval the suction cups part under spring 256 and spring 262 rotates the rollers to project a grasping portion of web through slot 104. A partly used roll may be placed on supports 262 when a new roll is placed on the upper supports 112 and a double thickness web dispensed until the partly used roll is finished. A knurled wheel 240 on the cutter roller is rotated by hand at slot 280 against pawl 288 for threading the web through the guide means initially, the wheel 240 also being adjustable at 188 to allow the perforations to be inside or outside slot 104 when torn. Blade 182 may be helical and enter a helical slot 176 as in Fig. 23, the gearing between the rollers being such that slot 176 twists through e.g. 90 degrees compared with a 45 degree twist of the blade. The blade may be flat but hinged on its roller and have end lugs co-operating with cams on the ends of the slot roller whereby the blade edge is orientated in the direction of movement of its point of contact with the web.
