Abstract

1298924 Discharging molten metals USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 13 Jan 1970 [16 Jan 1969] 1677/70 Heading F4B A supporting mechanism for multiple gate means (24, 25) slidable along parallel paths for closing a pair of outlet openings (13, 14) in a bottom-pair vessel, a gate means being associated with the bottom of each outlet and being longitudinally movable on the supporting mechanism for selective alignment of a solid portion or a nozzle portion of the gate means with the associated outlet opening for respectively closing the outlet opening or permitting flow therethrough; the supporting mechanism comprises a row of yokes (33) mounted on the bottom wall of the vessel between the two paths, and spring means (35) urging the yokes upwardly for support of the adjacent edges of the gate means. The support means for the outer edges of the gate means includes a row of levers (19) pivoted to the bottom wall alongside each outer edge of the gates and spring means (22) urging the outer ends of the levers downwardly.
