Abstract
1298709 Pulse radar MARCONI CO Ltd 4 May 1971 [2 June 1970] 26668/70 Heading H4D In a pulse Doppler radar the relationships between pulse repetition period (p.r.p.) and range and between p.r.p. and Doppler frequency shift exhibit "blind" zones, Figs. 1 and 6 (neither shown). According to one aspect of the present invention electrical parameters representative of target range r and pulse repetition period p are compared in a multiplicity of fractional relationships each related to a different relationship between r and p at which the radar changes to a blind to a non-blind condition and vice versa, and an indication is given of the suitability or otherwise of a p for transmission or p is controlled; according to the second aspect of the invention an arrangement mutatis mutandis is provided in respect of p and target velocity v. Preferably both aspects are provided. In an embodiment resistors R A ... R D , R F , R G , R H correspond to the slopes of lines (A ... D, F, G, H, Fig. 1, not shown) on the r, p graph which represent boundaries of blind zones, are supplied from a voltage V R representing a given range, and the currents therethrough are monitored by circuits incorporating transistors TR1A ... TR1H: corresponding voltage comparators 5A &c. are each arranged to produce a bi-stable output which changes state as the corresponding input voltage passes through a reference potential which is earth potential for comparators 5A ... FD and a voltage V s , corresponding to an "offset" range (see Fig. 1, not shown), for comparators 5E ... 5H. A sawtooth voltage, such that zero amplitude represents ap magnitude of zero and maximum amplitude represents maximum p magnitude, is applied to terminal T2. The outputs of the coparators are combined in logical circuit L, a "0" signal at the output terminal of which corresponds to the "non-blind" areas; such signal may be utilized to indicate the suitability or otherwise of given p's for a given r, or may control p automatically. In a modification there is a difference in the manner in which the voltages applied to the comparators 5A ... 5D, 5F, 5G, 5H are derived, Figs. 8, 9 (neither shown). A staircase waveform may replace the sawtooth.
