Abstract

1298628 Antistatic polyamides TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc and SANYO CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 June 1970 28054/70 Heading C3R Antistatic properties are imparted to synthetic linear polyamides by incorporation of 0À5 to 15 wt. per cent of a phosphoric ester component which is predominantly a triester of the formula obtained by triesterifying an addition product of a compound containing a carbonamide group and ethylene and/or propylene oxide. The balance of the ester component may be metal salts of the mono- and di-esters whose similar use is described and claimed in Specification 1,226,114. It is stated that predominantly triesterification may be accomplished by using a strong esterifying agent such as phosphorus oxychloride. Specified compounds containing carbonamide groups are 4 to 13 member lactams, oligomers up to the hexamer thereof, or of the corresponding amino acid, and up to trimers of a diacid and diamine. Specified polyamides are nylons 6, 66, 7, 8, 610, 11 and 12 and poly-pxylylene dodecanoamide. Various techniques for incorporating the antistatic agent are described. U.-V. and heat stabilizers, delustrants, dyes and pigments may also be incorporated. Uses.-The antistatic polyamides are particularly useful as fibres for various textile uses but reference is also made to their use in other shaped articles.
